Where does meiosis occur and what do you start and end with?

It occurs in the ual organs of the human. The ovary for the female and testicle for the males. You start off with 46 chromosomes( diploid number) in the somatic cell and ends up with 23 chromosomes(haploid) in the gamete cells. I am answering as reference to the human.
