Why does my Xbox 360 sometimes take a long time to show the "Recent Games" list in my Game Library?

The list seldom changes. In fact, I just quit a demo and went back to the same Recent Games list I launched the demo from, and this time it took 1 minute to show the list onscreen! The time before that it was less than 10 seconds. What gives?
