My son just got a new phone.?

He is 13 years old and his mom got him a blackjack (samsung's version of a blackberry). My fiance and I got into a fight about it because she thinks that he is too spoiled and he shouldn't have that kind of phone. I told her that his mother got an upgrade and rebate that only put the phone cost at $50. Do you think my fiance is overreacting?
